West Bengal’s voters have delivered a dramatic political verdict, handing the BJP a historic victory in a state long seen as one of the party’s toughest electoral frontiers. The result marks a major shift in Bengal politics, with implications likely to extend beyond the state. The Trinamool Congress, which had dominated Bengal politics under Mamata Banerjee, was overtaken amid a mix of anti-incumbency, governance concerns, and a sharply altered electoral landscape following the SIR-driven voter roll revision that reportedly reduced the electorate by nearly 12%. BJP secured a commanding 207 seats, while the TMC was reduced to 80, signalling a significant political realignment in the state. The outcome also marks the first time since 2011 that Bengal will see a government led by a party other than the Trinamool Congress.
